Bathing in the Londini Falls in Pitigliano – In the village of Pitigliano, known as one of the most beautiful Borgi in Italy, there are natural beauty sites that offer visitors quality experiences. A particularity of Pitigliano is its rise on a tufa rock but not only; the country is also surrounded by three rivers: La Lente, the Meleta and the Procchio. The river Lente delimits the tufaceous spur forming small waterfalls that reinforce the landscape value of the place, making it even more unique. Following the path of the Lente and Meleta meet ancient mills now transformed into houses. These old buildings testify how in Pitigliano until the late 70s, natural waters were also used to produce energy.
Once a path allowed tree-lovers to reach all the existing mills in Pitigliano following the course of the rivers. This path is no longer visible today. But, under the village exists and resists the most beautiful waterfall “La Cascata del Londini”. I knew a road to get to the waterfall, a dirt road that began in the center of the village, exactly in Via Santa Chiara. The white road walked close to the tufaceous rock and reached the beautiful Roman Bridge, which still exists.
To reach the Londini Waterfall today it is necessary to take the car and head towards the Regional Road 74 towards Manciano then turn right on the Provincial Road of Pian della Madonna in the direction of Sovana. We pass Pitigliano from below and after about 4 km on the road of Pian della Madonna, we will cross a small bridge over the river Lente. From the bridge on, continue on foot towards Sovana. A little later on the right side of the road, a sign indicates the path to get to the Vecchio Mulino Rossi (private property). Near the mill now in disuse, we meet the Roman Bridge. We continue to walk in the path on the left, along the water course.
Here we are finally arrived at the Falls of Londini where all the local boys love to swim in the summer. Once the Falls were illuminated and at night from the center of the village they could see each other well. They were a real attraction! Here, we look around astonished, it seems to be in an earthly paradise. The vegetation around the waterfall grows free, intrusive, creates banks and then overflows, it intertwines and then winds, while the water always falls fresh, clean, maintaining a rhythm and a continuity … almost solemn. Spending an afternoon at the Londini Falls is a simple, economical and unforgettable trip, even better if you can do it with the children.
